I think the weirdest thing was that the messages these things seemed to be portraying were not about Christianity, but about social problems. I realize the church should not ignore modern problems, but it should not turn into simply an institution for doing nice things and stopping wordly problems- the good things that flow out of the church ought to be a result of our conforming to the person of Christ, but the church is not a benevolence center whose sole purpose is to help people. It seems like the things that church is doing (flashing up pictures of Martin Luther King and singing about poverty worldwide) are trying to draw people in by being concerned about people's everyday lives, but conveniently forgetting to focus on the real message of the church, which is Jesus coming to save sinners, not simply give humanity a hand.
